500 Judaica
Nishima’s My Soul Delights Chuppah design (also a potential ketubah design) was featured in Lark Book’s beautiful publication 500 Judaica in 2010.
Vienna Jewish Museum Exhibition
Nishima was recently chosen by the prestigious Jewish Museum of Vienna to be the only American Ketubah Artist in their Jewish Wedding exhibition. All the more thrilling was curator Evi Fuk’s choice of “The Kiss,” inspired by Viennese-native Gustav Klimt!
Nishima’s work appeared side-by-side with four hundred year old ketubahs and ritual items – quite a remarkable feeling. Unfortunately, we were too busy making ketubahs to visit Vienna for the show. Our ketubahs do a lot more travelling then we do!
Pictured is the show’s catalogue.
The Creative Jewish Wedding Book
Nishima’s ketubahs were featured in the wonderful new book by Gabrielle Kaplan-Meyer (no relation.) The quote below comes from Hilarie and Brian; a couple whom Gabrielle interviewed for the book. Nishima created their stunning hand-made ketubah.
“There was nothing like the feeling that we both had as we opened our ketubah. It was more beautiful and special than we imagined it would be,”
-Hilarie and Brian
Philadelphia Jewish Exponent
Nishima’s “Heirloom Quilt” design was chosen for the cover of the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent’s Passover Issue.
Atlanta Jewish Times
Nishima’s Ketubahs (and life story) were featured in the Atlanta Jewish Times’ Spring 2005 Simcha edition. Writer Suzi Brozman captured the heart of Nishima’s passion for Judaism, Art and Family. “High in the mountains of western North Carolina, Nishima Kaplan works her magic in words and pictures — and brides and grooms the world over rejoice.”
Los Angeles Jewish Journal
“Surrounded by the Sacred” was written by Rob Kutner in 1999 during Nishima’s one-woman “Women at the Wall” show at USC. “As bright and diverse as her colors are, Kaplan’s lines are tender and generous, showing an intimacy with her subjects…”
Mountain Express
Nishima was featured in her local paper in Asheville, NC in March 2009. Anne Fitten Glenn featured Nishima in her six part series “Worldwide WNC, Locals Going Global.”
